Three 8 1/2 x 11 sheets

This Image Transfer Material (ITM) is absolutely amazing! The process is the same as doing a packing tape transfer, but the results are so much more attractive and professional. It's ultra sticky, very thin and has a matte finish so it's easy to work the transfer into an art project without it being obvious. Click on the image to see more examples.

Using a laser printer you can make custom journalling stickers, too. Simply print the desired words on to the ITM and crop. Peel off the backing and layer the sticker over your layout. Totally cool.

Please note. In our constant effort to reduce garbage we do not include instructions with your order. You can refer back to this page once you receive this item. Also, the ITM looks like a plain piece of white paper so don't throw it away with your packaging!

If you don't know how to use this material for image transfers, it's very easy. Choose an image from a magazine, book, photocopy or laser print and cut it to size. Cut the ITM slightly bigger than the image you want to transfer. Peel the sticky material off it's backing and apply it to the front of the image. It works best if you peel the backing off slightly and stick the exposed material to the top of the image, then slowly peel off the backing, all the while rubbing the ITM onto your image. Burnish well with a bone folder or back of a metal spoon. Soak in water.

The soaking time depends on the paper and you'll have to experiment a little. Most papers don't need more than 5 to 10 minutes. If in doubt, longer is better.

Remove from the water, place face down and start rubbing the back of the image. The paper should now roll off, leaving the ink on the ITM. You now have a see-through picture! Sometimes the stickiness of the ITM is still there and you can simply attach the image to your project. If not, you can also attach it with a thin layer of acrylic medium, mod podge or a clear-drying white glue.

If you are transferring an image any larger than about 4" x 4" it's usually easier to lay the ITM face down and carefully peel off the backing, then roll the image onto it.

If you are using a book or magazine image, try doing a transfer from that book or magazine with clear packing tape, first. Not all publications are going to transfer well and, rather than wasting the ITM, you can find this out with packing tape. The process is exactly the same as doing it with the ITM. I

This is a simple technique with gorgeous results and you should get the hang of it quite quickly. If you do run into problems, email us at collagejoy@shaw.ca. We're happy to help.
